Beautiful limited production wine crafted from Pinot Noir grown on Seneca Lake's Nutt Road Vineyard. Cherry preserves, saddle leather, tobacco, and raspberries on the nose. Bright notes of bing cherries and pomegranate on the palate. The finish is fresh and bright with nicely integrated medium-firm tannins.
Nutt Road
The Nutt Road vineyard is located on the west side of Seneca Lake on well-drained Honeoye silt loam soil. Vineyard manager Peter Martini’s use of sustainable viticulture methods and his attentiveness to the vines ensure that the resulting Pinot Noir grapes are of exceptional quality.
The grapes were hand-picked in the early morning hours in small individual picking lugs, then brought to the winery and optically sorted. The optical sorter used cameras to evaluate the color and texture of each berry, and selected only the best possible fruit. The stems were hand-sorted to select those we wished to include in the fermentation. The selected fruit and stems were 50% whole cluster fermented for an average of 14 days, then basket pressed and gently gravity-flow transferred into barrels for 12 months of aging in Francois Freres French oak barrels. The wine was then bottled under the Vino-Lok glass closure to preserve the essence of the wine.
Pairs beautifully with pan-seared duck breast with a savory cherry compote, herb-crusted roast pork loin, or a simple salad of grilled beets and goat cheese over a spring greens mix.
