This Pinot Noir is crafted from the spectacular 2020 vintage which featured hot, dry weather and encouraged the development of beautiful complexity and depth of flavor in the finished wines. Rich plums, cherries, and exotic spices on the nose followed by dark cherries and créme de cassis on the palate and a long, satisfying finish with firm tannins.
Rich plums, cherries, and exotic spices on the nose. Dark cherries continue on the palate, along with créme de cassis, followed by a long, satisfying finish with firm tannins. Drinks beautifully now, but will be even better with a few years of age.
This wine is our classic blend of Pinot Noir, and includes fruit from the following Finger Lakes vineyards: 54% - Nutt Road Vineyard, Seneca Lake; 14% - Elaine's Vineyard, Seneca Lake; 14% - Hobbit Hollow Vineyard, Skaneateles Lake; 14% Lot 10 Vineyard, Skaneateles Lake
The 2020 vintage was simply spectacular for Pinot Noir. The growing season featured warm, sunny weather with minimal precipitation. This ideal weather continued through Autumn, allowing us to pick the Pinot Noir grapes at optimal ripeness and perfect balance.
The grapes were hand-picked and optically sorted. The optical sorter used cameras to evaluate the color and texture of each berry, and selected only those which met our standards. Stems were hand-sorted to select those we wished to include in the fermentation. The selected fruit and stems were 50% whole cluster fermented, then basket pressed and gently gravity-flow transferred into barrels for 11 months of aging.
